RICHARDSON, Texas — Four weeks ago the DBC Padres beat Hatfish Softball 3–1 to open the fall. On Monday night at Huffhines Field No. 2, they put up 12 runs on Hatfish and still lost.
Hatfish won 13–12 at home. It scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, after the Padres had pushed their lead to 12–8 in the top half. That was Hatfish's fourth straight win, and the record is now 4–1.
How the score moved
The line score tells the story in three stretches.
Hatfish started fast. It scored four in the first and led 4–2. Neither side scored in the second. The teams traded four runs each in the third, and Hatfish led 8–6.
Then Hatfish went quiet. The Padres scored three in the fourth to take a 9–8 lead, and the home side didn't score in the fourth or fifth. When the Padres added three more in the top of the sixth, it was 12–8.
Hatfish needed four to tie and five to win. It got five.
The sheet does not say how the five runs scored or who drove them in, inning by inning. This report won't guess at that.

Cole was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Creg was 1-for-3 and drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Brooks went 0-for-2, and his deep fly ball in the first moved Ty to third.

What it means
The Padres are the only team to beat Hatfish this fall. On Monday they led by four going into Hatfish's last at-bats and lost. The season series is even at one game each.
Hatfish has won four in a row since the opener: 10–8 over the Battle Unicorns, 18–2 over Zion Lutheran, 16–8 over the DBC Angels and now 13–12 over the Padres.
